Описание: May 2013: the European Court of Human Rights ruled against Italy in the case 'Torreggiani and others vs Italy' for violation of art. 3 of the European Convention. Mr Torreggiani and six other prisoners had spent time in very overcrowded cells, where life conditions were qualified by the Court as inhuman and degrading treatments. Thousands of analogous complaints were pending in Strasbourg. For the 'Torreggiani judgment' the Court decided to use the tool of the pilot judgment. The Court adjourned the other decisions and gave one year to the Italian authorities for improving prison conditions and addressing the other issues pointed at by the 'Torreggiani judgment'.
