A panel discussion about the role of labor movements in current popular struggles in the Middle East and North Africa with Joel Beinin, Bill Fletcher, Brahim Rouabah and Rabab Elnaiem, hosted by DSA’s International Committee and the Global African Worker.
The point of departure for this event was Joel Beinin’s Jacobin article “Arab Workers and the Struggle for Democracy” (https://jacobinmag.com/2020/05/arab-s..., which examines the current state of labor movements and their role in popular struggles from Egypt and Tunisia to Algeria and Sudan and beyond.

Brahim Rouabah: Algerian activist, co-founder and former head of the UK Algeria Solidarity campaign, PhD candidate in Political Science at CUNY and a graduate teaching fellow at Brooklyn College
Bill Fletcher: Executive Editor of the Global African Worker (globalafricanworker.com), former president of the TransAfrica Forum, co-author of Solidarity Divided: The Crisis in Organized Labor and a New Path toward Social Justice (2009)
