Construction of Warangal Fort: The fort's construction began in the 13th century under Kakatiya king Ganapati Deva, who moved the capital from Hanamkonda to Warangal. His daughter, Queen Rudrama, oversaw its completion, and the last king, Prataparudra II, made further additions.
Architectural Marvels: The fort is famous for its massive granite walls, intricate carvings, and four ornamental gateways (Kakatiya Kala Thoranam), which are now a symbol of the state of Telangana.
The Thousand Pillar Temple: Located near the fort, this temple is a masterpiece of Kakatiyan architecture, dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Bhadrakali Temple: This ancient temple, dedicated to the goddess Bhadrakali, was originally built around 625 AD during the Chalukyan reign and was later adopted by the Kakatiyas.
Invasions: The fort faced several attacks, most notably an invasion by Malik Kafur, a general of Alauddin Khilji, in 1309.
UNESCO Status: Warangal Fort is on the "tentative list" for UNESCO World Heritage Site status.
