If you have any questions let me know in the comments below and I'll try to answer all of those. Okay? So, today's lesson is about American Values. Do you know what values are? What is a value? Well, a value is something that a person tries to represent in their culture. It's sort of, the way that they think.
So, here are a few American values that you should know.
Number one: individuality.
Individuality. What does that mean?
Well, Americans are very individual type people. They like to spend some time alone, they like to do things without needing other people's help. They don't like to depend on other people, like their friends or their family.
Now, I don't always like that because I would like to spend more time with my
friends and family and even to, sort of count on them more. But, it's not the way that we do it. Americans are very individual type of people. They really seek opportunities where if they're successful, they did it by themselves.
Number two. Number two: American values. Another American value
is privacy.
Americans like to be very private. So, that means that they may, ah go out alone, not in a big group. They may like to do things alone. So, they like to spend time alone.
They also consider uh, their home or their house kind of a private place. So, whereas in other places, maybe Mexico or in Europe, you may drop by someone's house. You may stop in at their house when they're not expecting you. Well, in America we don't really do that. We're more private. K. Number two, is privacy.
Number three is: we really respect time, we've got a value around time.
So, this means that Americans say, "time is money". Okay. That means that uh, when you say, "time is money", you mean that you don't want to waste time.
You want to make very efficient useof time.
Okay. So, Americans also like to be punctual. Or, "on time". So if I say I will meet a friend at 3pm for lunch, if I'm late I will apologize. I say, "I'm sorry I'm late for lunch". I apologize if I'm late, because I respect time and my friends respect time and if I'm late or not on time, then I apologize.
Number four. The fourth American value I'll talk about today is equality.
Equality.
Now this is very different in many other places in the world. Because we really consider everyone to be equal. So, men, women, people of different races, white, black uh, different colored people, different age of people.
So, young middle-age and old are all considered equal.
Now, part of this came from thousands of years ago in the Roman tradition of,
of really looking at values. And one Ancient Roman tradition was, people are equal. And that tradition came over to America and our founding fathers put this into the original founding documents of this culture.
So, Americans consider everyone to be equal. And, that is of value that I really like. Other cultures are different and that's ok. But, here we consider everyone to be equal.
Alright. So, that's today's lesson about American Culture.
