Due to the stupidity, arrogance, and outright dishonesty of #Dell’ support team (the description of the problem and the overall situation is in my previous post), I was unable to reissue the warranty. I also have no possibility to take the laptop to service centers, and I’m not confident that there are people there who actually care about the equipment.
So I had to solve the cooling problem myself.
I decided to order fans from another manufacturer — in the video you can see which ones were installed before and which ones I replaced them with. Note that the fans have different power consumption — the old ones were 0.6 A, the new ones are 0.8 A. The difference is minimal, but still there.
What really struck me was the “quality” of the factory-applied thermal paste from #Alienware. In the video, you can see that they just smeared it on like jam or peanut butter on a sandwich. This kind of work looks like it was done by an amateur with “hands growing from the wrong place.”
I completely removed the old paste and applied Honeywell 7950. For peace of mind, I replaced both fans.
The result is impressive:
• Already in the first minutes, without the thermal pads having “settled in” (just after two stress tests or launching a game), the CPU temperature stayed at 85–86 °C.
• The GPU during Battlefield 2042 gameplay stayed at 75 °C.
• No temperature drops or spikes were observed during the entire hour of gaming.
By the way, the new fans are even externally made better than the previous ones. I always ordered equipment made for the US market, hoping for better quality, but as it turns out, that rule no longer applies.
