Is yoga good for the immune system?
I’d vote yes! Just as exercise or brushing your teeth/washing your hands before you eat is good for your immune system, practicing yoga can also be a healthy practice that help keep you your healthiest self!
Here are some ways how:
🧬Immune stimulation
The poses in yoga affect the deepest layers of our physical bodies. Certain poses and techniques can create a sort of internal massage that can stimulate various organs (there are sensors on each organ that respond to physical pressure - i.e why you get full when the stomach fills up!). Poses can stimulate digestion and even elimination by twisting as well as your lymphatic (immune) system - armpits, groin, throat - through movement! The depicted poses above target the areas of your lymphatic.
🌬Breath
Breathwork (pranayama) has so many benefits. Extending the length of both inhales and exhales trains your lungs to be stronger and healthier. Our breath also has an effect on our heart rate and can calm heightened emotional states of stress!
🧠Mindfulness
The mind body spirit connection is undeniable, and the way the yoga practice taps into all 3 sets it apart from other forms of exercise. Your thoughts are powerful! So powerful it can make you feel other like a superhuman or sick! Elevate your mind, elevate your body, elevate your life.
👁 Lifestyle changes
When you study yoga and it’s teachings your lifestyle shifts. Your perspective grows, stress decreases, you choose healthier ways to live. You lessen your suffering.
