Title: THINK, REPHRASE, SUCCEED (TRS): A STRUCTURED PARAPHRASING MODULE FOR FUTURE HEALTH PROFESSIONALS
Category IID: Social Science
Effective communication and accurate documentation are crucial for health science students to ensure clarity and integrity in academic and clinical writing. Unfortunately, inadequate paraphrasing instruction frequently results in accidental plagiarism, misunderstandings of scientific ideas, and inaccurate documentation. This study explores how extensive paraphrasing module improves their capacity to restate complex scientific and medical knowledge while preserving originality and correctness in their writing. The methods used to assess their paraphrasing abilities were semi-structured interviews and pre and post-written tests, as this study looked into the perceptions and measurable improvements in paraphrasing skills. Eight students from the faculty of health sciences participated in the study using a purposive sample technique. Many students had trouble rewording written assignments without changing meaning before the training. As evidenced by their increased accuracy, coherence, and originality in their academic writing, paraphrasing skills significantly improved after the training. The study emphasizes how crucial organized paraphrase modules are for developing professional communication skills and academic honesty. The paraphrasing module in this study was intensive and systematic, focusing on three core components: Understanding the Fundamentals of Paraphrasing, Application of Paraphrasing Strategies, and Assessment and Improvement. By understanding the fundamentals, practicing effective strategies, and continuously assessing their progress, students will develop the confidence to paraphrase, ensuring clarity, originality, and compliance with ethical writing standards. The results highlight the necessity of including paraphrasing education in health science curricula to improve student's writing abilities and help the organization produce more accurate research reporting and medical paperwork. Additionally, it will maintain academic integrity and avoid plagiarism from a policy standpoint. Consequently, spending money on paraphrasing instruction guarantees long-term advantages, which include enhanced professional competency and academic honesty.
