Vlogging or filming in small indoor spaces? Which lenses work for crop sensor cameras? We look at the Canon EFS 10-18mm, Sigma 18-35 f1.8, Canon EF 35mm f2 IS and Canon EF 50mm f1.8 lenses, and how useful they are in different situations on an APS-C crop sensor camera. I cover 3 scenarios - vlogging, filming in a small office or bedroom or shooting an interview or documentary in a small area. Now more than ever, people may want to shoot video indoors, so I hope this helps you find a good solution for your needs.
This is a rough and ready episode - I just wanted to get something helpful out quickly during the 2020 coronavirus lockdown in case people were trying to order lenses online for producing video for work, church, youtube or just for fun.
In case you wanted the general info by lens:
Canon EFS 10-18mm f4.5-5.6 (price new: £250, used: £150)
Canon EF 50mm f1.8 STM. (price new: £100, used £60-80)
Canon EF 35mm f2.0 IS USM (price new: £500, used £400)
Sigma ART 18-35mm f1.8 (price new: £600, used £400-500)
*all prices in UK, April 2020.
All footage was shot on a Canon 90D, but I changed lenses quite a lot. I've put the lens and / or focal length in the video to try to help you keep up.
