LECTURE 09
Here methods are presented to relate the velocity and acceleration of one point in a body to another point in the body. Vector equations are presented which can be used for relative velocity and acceleration analysis. Additionally the method of instantaneous center of zero velocity (aka instantaneous center of rotation) is presented. An example problem is presented in which the linear velocity and acceleration are given for a slider driven by a connecting rod connected to a crank. The vector-based method is used to determine the linear velocity of the crank end of the connecting rod and the angular velocity of the connecting rod. The instantaneous center method is then used to find the same velocities. The linear velocity of the crank end of the connecting rod is then used to find the angular velocity of the crank. After all the velocities of interest are determined, the vector-based method for relating accelerations within a rigid body is utilized to determine the angular acceleration of the connecting rod and the crank, and the linear acceleration of the crank end of the connecting rod. The Casio fx-115es plus is used to solve the resulting system of equations each time a vector equation is written.
