"Many people in the Western world... they are facing the problem of high obesity, overweight and so the sun gazing is giving them a sure cure. How they can eliminate overeating, lessen the food, get the energy from the sun directly instead of the solid food that we are normally taking in. So, sun energy replaces the energy that we get from the food."

"Basically in the morning and in the evening, the sun rays are not as powerful or as dangerous as you see in the noon. But, it is definitely not advisable even in the evening or night to look at sun directly with the naked eyes. Science doesn't really support that, and there can be damage to the eyes."

Without the sun, there would be no life on earth.
And in India followers of Surya Yoga claim that gazing at the sun brings perfect balance of mind, body and spirit.
STORYLINE
In the Southern Indian city of Kozhikode, a group of people have adopted the practice of sun gazing or Surya Yoga as an integral part of their lives.
It involves looking at the sun directly, at dawn or dusk, during first 20 minutes after sunrise and last 20 minutes before sunset.
That is the period when sun's rays have the least amount of harmful ultra-violet rays.
Surya is a Sanskirt word for sun.
Valasala, a government employee, says she hopes that gazing at the sun will mean she won't have to wear glasses.
Aravindan, a retired government employee, says he found that has he "gained immunity to colds. I think I can handle stress much better now. I get an inner strength and it is only after practicing Surya Yoga that I have felt this way."
