Nintendo announced in January that on April 8th 4PM, PDT they would close the Nintendo Network servers, which was April 9th, 1AM in the timezone I am in, I managed to stay a couple hours extra but would be kicked from the servers at around 3am.
There is now no offical way to play on the wii U online, there are third party services (pretendo) of course but it will never be the same.
