Описание: The last leg of our road trip from Belgrade to Tampere with Nero the cat

We booked ferry tickets only one day in advance as we didn't want to make too tight of a schedule. We had 2600 km to drive from Belgrade to Tampere and crossing the sea is usually the most expensive part of traveling from/to Finland from continental Europe.

Prices are low without a car, but when traveling onboard a ferry with a camper van tickets get a bit more expensive.

There are few ferry lines available. I prefer Tallink Silja, but my parents originally thought we would take Viking Line.
Schedules are reasonably similar but keep in mind that Helsinki has multiple harbors.

Viking Line arrives at Katajanokka which is very close to the center, but traffic-wise it isn't the easiest spot.
Tallink ships arrive in Länsisatama (Western harbor that is) and with a car it is easier to hit the highway from there.
There is no big difference though.

As we were last-minute bookers, Viking Line was sold out, so we booked Tallink Megastar.
The tickets cost around 200 € for the camper van, three people, and a cat. Yes, you actually do pay a small fee for pets too, but it's only about 15 €.
Bringing the car across the Baltic Sea is the priciest part of this journey.

When we lived in Helsinki near the harbor with my hubby, we often took a ferry to Tallinn, and it cost only about 20 € p/p.

But this time my parents drove all the way to Belgrade, Serbia, to take me and our cat back home to Finland after 8 years abroad.

Nero the cat decided to stay in a car (a huge surprise for us) although she would have been approved to join us on the upper decks in a box.
We people onboard are not allowed to stay on a car deck, so we left Nero to sleep in a car and went to have a buffet lunch.

This ferry ride from Tallinn to Helsinki takes only two hours, so there is not much spare time.
I went to shop a few bottles of wine and then joined my parents for the buffet lunch.
