4MB is allocated for video, and most programs run between 20-35MB of RAM. 48 is the minimum you'd need for the lightest apps, but the VM froze when I tried to load a music player stream file from a Firefox link. It's surprising that Firefox once only needed around 20MB of RAM to work. Most sites are https nowadays, so there are a lot of certificate prompts- there might be a way to ignore them with a basic http browser, but it certainly makes the experience slower.

Other thoughts:
The latest iPhone, and iPad uses a 3 nanometer A17 Bionic chip, a 64-bit ARM processor with 19 billion transistors. The number of transistors that can fit in a square millimeter is 183 million. A 16MB RAM chip is 134 million transistors, and would consume less than 5 milliwatts at 3 nanometers. A solar powered laptop could be manufactured by Samsung, Apple, Google, and Nvidia, but it would not be worth their effort, since they would need to use a $340 million ASML EUV laser to produce a 4mm^2 chip with 64 MB of RAM to run a basic linux, when they could sell a chip that is more than 1000 mm^2 (AMD Instinct MI300A) at a higher price - $10-$15k:

It's a thing.
Thus open source designers should think about where their money is going whenever they buy a new iPhone, or Galaxy phone. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transis...
Solar powered systems can be designed.

No one seems to be building it. It's not a particularly high tech idea, nor a low-tech one. It is an expensive one though. • If You Build It, They Will Come - Field of...
My newest paper makes the estimate that 64MB of RAM can be developed on 3nm using foundry technology and be powered by a solar panel that fits a smartphone:

One not need design for the leading node. The 22nm node may suffice (and is still relatively leading). Are you an investor or academic? If so, contact me if you'd like to develop a 1mm^2 or 9mm^2 chip to prove that linux/Win 95 can be manufactured on solar power and be commercially practical- For the low price of $24,999/mm^2 or $161,991 (9mm^2) and a VLSI design team, you can help develop the world's first solar powered system on a chip, using 1/100th of the power consumption of the first Raspberry Pi (400-700mW). https://www.cmc.ca/globalfoundries-22...

(proton me and one day your laptop will be photon powered)
The world doesn't need more (or just) microcontrollers, CCTVs, AI insects crawling under people's skin. What they need is solar powered laptops and phones that aren't dependent on an electrical outlet.
