The acquisition of Sheaffer by India-based William Penn has raised quite a few eyebrows, and predictably so. However, this is by no way the first overseas acquisition by the entity. They had earlier taken over the Lapis Bard brand, which if my memory serves me right, came from the legendary Conway Steward stable.
The Cranberry Sangria, which we are featuring here is an ink that is particularly close to my heart for I just adore the shade, which reminds me of wine and is just as intoxicating. The ink comes in a beautiful triangular crystal bottle and is a sheer delight to write with, neither too wet nor too dry for my liking. I am told that the Lapis Bard inks are specially made for the company in Europe, which perhaps explains the price, which is, I feel, a shade on the higher side. However, it is also my realization that for serious pen and ink hobbyists, a steep price is often an inducer as opposed to being a spoiler, the higher price being equated with better quality.
I have heard that Lapis Bard also makes some excellent fountain pens, but I have yet to own and write with one. As for their inks, the Cranberry Sangria is the third among the five that I possess, they are simply too good.
