Описание: Johannes Kepler was a major figure in the history of science, among many other contributions coming up with his laws of planetary motion. Less well known is that he also authored what is often called (incorrectly, see Bonus Fact below) the first science fiction novel, Somnium, “The Dream” in which Kepler narrates a dream where an herbalist witch and her astronomer son learn from a daemon what it’s like living on the Moon and offers to take them there. Despite having written the basic story of the book in the 1590s and finishing it a couple decades later, Kepler did not publish it. (It was eventually published in 1634, four years after his death.) Why didn't he publish the story? Some of the elements of Somnium struck a little too close to home. In fact, Kepler believed this work had been copied and become something gossiped about, which served as the spark for his mother being accused of witchcraft....
