Artika Natural is a naturist hotel on the south coast of Gran Canaria. Its discreet walls give away little of what is to be expected on the other side. With 12 separate accommodations surrounding a central pool this is a perfect option for a clothes free holiday.
Artika is one of two naturist hotels owned by the same Dutch couple in Gran Canaria. Artika is designed with space and comfort in mind, maximising all amenities that help the space flow so well. Each accommodation has their own round sun bed by the main pool with detachable support pillows, so the usual fighting for beds at 6am in none existent, in fact it’s discouraged as there is plenty of space for everyone to soak up the sun.
To the right of the main area is a large saltwater pool that is built on a higher lever so you can enjoy looking down at the main pool area while you float in the salt, and enjoyed the heated water which is always appreciated in February.
There is also a large hot tub, infrared sauna and small gym to use at your leisure…..if getting up a sweat is something you like to do on holiday, we can also recommend the Health club Gym across the road, just €7 day pass.
We were welcomed warmly by the ladies who work at Artika. A complimentary drink and all the information we would need for a relaxing stay on arrival. One gin later and tipsy with excitement, it was time to see our apartment. Artika 12 would be our home for the next 7 nights and it didn’t disappoint. Situated at the back of the resort this quiet spot had its own double four poster sun bed, 6 person jacuzzi, fabric swing and outdoor seating area. Inside was a tastefully decorated open plan kitchen/lounge, separate bedroom, with a huge bed and shower room with complimentary tooth brush, paste, razor and hygiene products, which is always welcome when you travel light like we do, don’t want any stray hairs at the end of the trip! (not that that matters of course).
The accommodation is self catering but you do get breakfast included. Served from 8.30-10.30am daily by the bar I wasn’t expecting such a wide selection of food, typically I thought it would be a continental breakfast of bland pre bought pastries and even blander cereal, but I was very pleasantly surprised. Provided in the kitchen is plenty of choice and the hot plate was something we made use of every morning. Fried eggs and bacon was our favourite choice for breakfast on warm fresh cooked bread! That I wasn’t expecting. (At home I only cook fresh bread, becoming more aware over the years of all the additives in basic foods that aren’t needed, or healthy for us). Artika has a special oven situated below ground that the staff use daily to provide guests with plenty of homemade fresh bread and I definitely felt envious.
There is also choices of cheese, cured meats, fruit and cereal to set you up for the day. As well at a selection of tea’s, coffees and fruit juices.
Self catering gives you the options to cook or to go out. We tend to stay in and cook, making full use of our lovely accommodation and there are plenty of supermarkets in the area to choose from so you don’t necessarily need a car if you don’t want to go far.
Throughout the day staff are on hand to deal with queries and you can order food and drink up until 7.30pm, after that the bar is closed and the staff return again at 7.30am for another 12 hour shift. Recently upgrading to an iPad ordering system, you can use your key fob to order drinks from the bar from the comfort of your loungers, paying your bar tab when you leave the resort, which is thoughtful as we naturist rarely have pockets to carry money in.
You can also hire towels for a €20 deposit and get collected from the airport for a fee of €60. (This been the only option if you are arriving between 7.30pm and 7.30am, just a little tip, when you receive an email to confirm your arrival time, please do! it saves the staff trying to second guess when you will arrive).
You can also request a daily shuttle to the beach, dropping off at Playa des Inglase beach.
All the staff spoke English and multiple other languages including, Spanish, Dutch, Hungarian and French, they make you feel so welcome we really didn’t want to leave.
Overall we couldn’t have been happier with the location and accommodation at Artika natural. We were so relaxed there is no need to feel self conscious, just take your clothes off and enjoy feeling the beautiful sunshine on your skin, we guarantee those winter blues will soon be a distant memory.
