How do you minimize the potential impact on health care services from a mass gathering? What does that look like when the event is a 14k run from the center of Sydney to the shores of the famous Bondi Beach over the infamous Heartbreak Hill where over 90,000 people will participate?
This annual event generates a substantial number of casualties, mainly related to exercise-induced heat exhaustion and poorly prepared entrants. Runners have suffered cardiac arrest in the past. The standup of two temporary medical centers and the deployment of Emergency Medical Teams with resuscitation capability take planning and significant logistical input.
