Hello, I am Hiroshi, Origami Colonel K., a Japanese army lieutenant colonel in reserve.
I'm sharing my Origami helicopter for the first time in a while.
By the time I graduated junior high school, that is, in the early 1980s, I had completed an Origami helicopter. It was a work applying the “bird base", featuring a main rotor with three blades, horizontal stabilizers, and landing gears (wheels). I have already released tutorials for it (the model name is KR-831) on my channel.
However, most real helicopters have four or more blades. So, to create such helicopters, I explored various folding methods and made several prototypes. However, none of them were satisfactory. The absence of a tail rotor, essential for a single-rotor helicopter, was particularly problematic.
Furthermore, while my other Origami works gradually became three-dimensional, I was unable to produce a three-dimensional helicopter.
Last year, a sudden turning point arrived. That year, I developed the Aegis destroyer, and by applying that technology, a groundbreaking helicopter was born that solved long-standing problems in one fell swoop.
That is the “Black Hawk” I'm introducing today. As you know, it's an American-made military helicopter widely used around the world. Of course, our country, Japan, also adopts it.
In this design, beyond the four rotor blades, the possibility remains to add one more. That part could be utilized to make an in-flight refueling probe, or an autocannon (though it isn't actually equipped with one) and so on.
To make this work, you need a large, thin square sheet of paper. Prepare a piece of paper approximately 30 centimeters square, or larger. Thin wrapping paper might be suitable. The templates for this work are currently under development.
This video continues in Part 2. External fuel tanks for rescue variants HH-60 can also be installed as an option. You can also make the Navy's SH-60 "Sea Hawk". I will introduce them in Part 2.
