ABOUT THIS COURSE

Working Equitation is a fairly young competitive discipline that is gaining in popularity. It was developed in the mid 1990s out of the southern European riding traditions and ranch work. Competitions comprise three to four phases: Dressage, Ease of Handling, and Speed Trials. Sometimes there is also a Cow Trial. The advanced and masters levels have to be ridden entirely with one hand.

The master of working equitation himself, world champion Pedro Torres, will guide you through the entire process from introducing a horse to the obstacle course for the first time to performing at the international level.

The course begins with dressage work. In his warm up, Pedro Torres primarily uses leg yields, lateral work, and tempo variations within the gaits. He emphasizes that is it essential for the rider to always analyze how to best support each individual horse.
