Indonesian shipbuilder PT PAL has officially commenced maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) work on the Philippine Navy’s first Tarlac-class Strategic Sealift Vessel (SSV), BRP Tarlac 601. This marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing partnership between Indonesia and the Philippines, as both nations work together to enhance maritime security and operational readiness in Southeast Asia. The BRP Tarlac 601, a Landing Platform Dock (LPD) launched by PT PAL in 2016, serves as a cornerstone of the Philippine Navy’s fleet, supporting missions ranging from humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) to amphibious operations. As the largest vessel operated by the Philippine Navy since its commissioning, the Tarlac plays a critical role in ensuring the country’s ability to respond to both domestic and international challenges.
This MRO project underscores PT PAL’s growing reputation as a trusted partner in naval shipbuilding and sustainment. With the vessel arriving at PT PAL’s facilities in Surabaya earlier this month, the shipyard is now preparing to carry out essential docking and repair work to ensure the continued operational capability of the SSV. The collaboration highlights Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening defense ties with neighboring countries while showcasing its expertise in maintaining complex naval platforms.
