The draft parking policy for Bangalore has been tabled to the Karnataka government for the final approval. As per the proposed parking policy, parking in front of houses would be chargeable.

The draft parking policy of Bangalore was discussed at the Karnataka government level, wherein the State’s Chief Minister, BS Yediyurappa spoke in favour of introducing a new parking policy soon. The Chief Secretary, TM Vijay Bhaskar was directed to hold another round of meetings to come to a consensus before the subject is brought before the State Cabinet.

Some of the issues discussed were the introduction of a permit-based parking system in residential areas and ensuring mandatory parking facility before purchasing vehicles in the city. Additionally, a ban on parking within a 1 km radius of multi-level parking facilities and on-street paid parking in commercial areas were also discussed as part of the new parking policy. While most of the meeting attendees agreed on introducing a new parking policy, there were some differences in the particulars.

The meeting was the first time the State government discussed the parking policy exclusively, and was arranged by the Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT) in association with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
