film shows: the first landing in rome of the british / french built supersonic concorde jetliner.
lead in: there has been renewed hope among the british and french aircraft industries that they may be able to sell more of the supersonic concorde jet airliners.
there has been renewed interest in the aircraft from airlines around the world following the successful operation of the concorde by the french and british airlines on the trans-atlantic run.
british airways claim the concorde has captured more than two thirds of the "excutive class traveller" on the run to the united states.
pan american airways, who originally held options to buy concordes but cancelled them claiming the supersonic jet could not make a profit are re-considering leasing several of the airliners.
as a further boost to the producers of the aircraft the concorde recently flew into rome for the first time in an attempt to influence the italians into buying the supersonic jet.

commentary: down sound the publicity flight to rome was organised by renault and air france. the rome flight showed that the concorde can land on almost any airstrip at an international terminus therefore making concorde available to most cities on the international flight schedule. up sound down sound the amount of publicity which the supersonic jet has received in the media was reflected in the large crowds which turned out in rome to see the concorde land. up sound down sound the flight left the charles de gaulle airport in paris and landed at rome's fiumicino airport shortly before midday. there the passengers left and had a short break before flying back to paris. the concorde can fly at speeds exceeding more than twice the speed of sound and hence would dramtically cut flights such as that from rome to new york. it was at this prospect that the italian airlines were looking so closely as they inspected the supersonic "bird" sitting on the tarmac at rome airport.
