6-step protocol for imaging palpable lumps in the extremities

💡Before taking your first #picture, scan through the entire region of interest in the long and short axis so that the images support your #hypothesis💡

Here is a 6-step #protocol for imaging palpable #lumps in the extremities:

1️⃣Place an arrow on the
#palpable lump and label all
the structures in the #image to
orient the interpreting
#physician to the location and
layer in which the lesion is
detected.
2️⃣Take static images of the
palpable lump in the long and
short axis using grey scale
imaging (B-mode).
3️⃣Obtain #measurements of the
lesion in both planes.
4️⃣Take a cine clip through the
entire lesion, documenting the
appearance of the lesion
before, during, and after it is
visualized in both planes for
the interpreting physician to
have a full picture of the
appearance, giving them the
full benefit of real-time
#imaging.
5️⃣Apply pressure to the lesion
and #document its
compressibility.
6️⃣Assess the lesion using #color
and/ or power #doppler in addition
to utilizing pulse wave doppler.

💡It is possible for a solid lesion to be confused for a #cyst. For this reason, visualization of #vascularity in a lesion can further distinguish its properties💡
