What impacts prognosis (for lymphoma)?
Dr Mary Ann Anderson, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre & Royal Melbourne Hospital, Melbourne, Australia
Dr Mary Ann Anderson, discusses factors that specialists look at when determining a patient’s prognosis when they have lymphoma/CLL.
Prognosis is dependent on some the following factors:
• Age, health and fitness of a person
• The diagnosis of lymphoma/CLL
• The characteristics of the subtype of lymphoma/CLL
• Stage of disease at diagnosis – the more advanced, sometimes more difficult to treat
• Genetic abnormalities
• The younger the person and better health, the more optimum treatment selection
• How well a patient responds to initial treatment
