Fedir Yakymenko (1876-1945) – Ukrainian composer, pianist, theorist, and educator.
He was one of the prominent representatives of the neo-romantic trend in 20th-century music, with noticeable influences of impressionism and some elements of contemporary modernist directions. Yakymenko’s musical works are characterized by excellent compositional technique, refined taste, elegance, and poetic mood.
His works were published by German, French, and Ukrainian publishers, but a significant part of them remains unpublished and is stored in Paris libraries or private archives.
On Yakymenko’s grave in Paris, it is written “Fedir Yakymenko – Ukrainian composer”. That’s how he considered himself. The figure of Fedir Yakymenko is unique, extraordinary, and extremely valuable in the context of Ukrainian national culture.
