A video of Waverley’s sailing from Penarth Pier to Ilfracombe, north Devon on Saturday 1st September.
The video shows Waverley arriving at Penarth Pier to a large awaiting crowd of passengers. She then departs Penarth and makes her way down Channel to the popular and traditional north Devon resort of Ilfracombe.
As Waverley approaches Ilfracombe the town crier is visible on the pier to welcome the steamer. Overlooking the pier at Ilfracombe is Damien Hirst’s stainless steel and bronze statue of Verity. The statue is over 60 feet tall and looks towards the South Wales Coast.
When Waverley departs the Victorian seaside town there is a crowd gathered on the pier to wave her off including the town crier ringing his bell.
As Waverley makes her way back up Channel the weather improves and by the time she returns to Penarth the sun is setting. The video ends as Waverley pulls away from Penarth Pier as she heads for Clevedon.
