HMS Prince of Wales is currently participating in Exercise Strike Warrior 2024, which is taking place in the North Sea and off the coast of Scotland from October 14–27, 2024. The exercise involves the following activities:
Carrier qualifications
Pilots from 809 NAS will operate by day and night to achieve their carrier qualifications.
Air-air capability
Wildcat helicopters from 815 Naval Air Squadron will use Martlet missiles to defend the ship.
Task group tactics
The UK Carrier Strike Group will work with NATO warships to test tactics in a variety of scenarios, including anti-submarine warfare, air defense, and pilot rescues.
F-35B jets
F-35B jets from 809 Naval Air Squadron will fly sorties, including mock long-range strikes into mainland Europe.
After Exercise Strike Warrior, the HMS Prince of Wales will continue with its winter program, which includes a support period in Portsmouth before the Carrier Strike Group 2025 deployment.
