Tension erupted in Manipur's capital, Imphal, at the Hapta Kangjeibung venue of the upcoming Sangai Festival 2025 as protesters from the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) attempted to storm the site, demanding a boycott of the government event amidst the ongoing displacement crisis. Security forces swiftly intervened, using lathi charge and tear gas shells to disperse the crowd shouting slogans like "Displaced lives matter," as they expressed strong opposition to the government's perceived misplaced priorities in hosting a tourism festival while thousands remain in relief camps.
