During the Parliament Budget Session, concerns were raised over emerging challenges to India’s energy security due to the rapidly changing geopolitical situation in West Asia.
It was highlighted that India imports nearly 55% of its crude oil from West Asia, making the region crucial for India’s energy needs. Any escalation in conflict could impact India’s economic stability, fuel prices and supply chains.
The issue also affects the safety of nearly 10 million Indians working in the Gulf region, while remittances from Gulf countries contribute around $51 billion annually to Indian families. Recent incidents involving Indian citizens have also raised serious concerns.
