How Ezetimibe works - cholesterol absorption inhibitor

Описание: Ezetimibe is chemically a beta lactam having azetidin-2-one ring system. It inhibits the absorption of cholesterol from the brush border of the intestine by inhibiting NPC1L1 receptors. It is given at a dose of 10 mg once daily and it can be given as monotherapy as well as combined with statins. Normally it has mild side effects like diarrhea and dizziness but when combined with statins it may enhance liver damage and rhabdomyolysis.
