4th Alarm apartment building fire in Whitehall PA **Early Video w/ Heavy Fire**

Just before 8:30PM Saturday night, Lehigh County sent Whitehall Fire to an AFA (Automatic Fire Alarm) to 1 Maryland Circle. Right after dispatch, a county deputy coroner got on the radio and reported heavy fire and smoke from a 1st floor apartment. Another 911 caller reported fire and smoke from an unknown apartment so with that, the box was upgraded to a building fire. Deputy 35-1 had the second alarm transmitted with entrapment because of the size of the apartment building.
Chief 35 (Bilder) arrived and immediately struck the 3rd alarm. First due engine stretched 1 hand line and hit the fire from the exterior by orders of the Deputy 35-1 for a transitional attack. A second hand line was stretched into the interior as a secondary line to protect the hallway.
On the other side of the building, numerous tenants including children were being rescued from the balconies.
The fire slowly extended vertically and took the apartment above and minor extension to the apartment on next to the fire apartment on exposure 2.
The 4th alarm was struck for extra manpower. The fire was called under control about 2 hours later with companies remaining on scene doing overhaul many hours into Sunday morning.
