Описание: Coming out towards the beginning of Joplin's most productive period after his move from Saint Louis to New York City, this delicately wonderful work contains some of his newly well-developed experiments that helped to set this rag aside from the more common-commercial pieces being thrust out of Tin Pan Alley with great alacrity. What may appear at first to be deceivingly complex to perform properly, Rose Leaf Rag comes around to actually be tidy & neat in its overall construction.

The soft A section features parallel and contrary motion figures between the hands, a pattern that is usually reserved for an interlude or trio. Starting out a rag with this device instead of a typical joyous march-like opening shows a nice example & trend of Joplin's continuing innovation. The B section contains an typically common syncopated pattern for the time, yet presents such in a refreshing manner while the trio, largely made up of thirds, stands up well against the sophisticated harmonies found within the work. Concluding with a strong & uplifting D section, per usual in Joplin's case, Rose Leaf Rag proudly stands as one of Joplin's finest syncopated sensations to have ever been penned!
