This is my first any% run with Rex door. Movement overall was a lot cleaner than in my last run. I didn’t mess up Chapter 1 as badly as I did in the previous run, but I did mess up T-Rex skip really badly. I lost like 20 minutes to that trick, but Rex door went smoothly. It's a miracle that this run somehow ended up less than a minute away from WR, despite both runs having completly different routes and me losing a lot of time in the Moonshuttle. Still, I'm happy with this run and may not improve upon it for a while.
In the current any% route, Rex door saves about 20 minutes, as it allows you to skip the Rex Furry boss fight at the end. To fight Rex Furry normally, you need Advanced Combat from Kung Fool. Getting that requires playing the Story until Kung Fool in Chapter 4 which is about 20 minutes slower than playing the Story until the Albatros Ferry, which I do in the current route. But why do I even play the Story until the Albatros Ferry in the first place? Well, it all has to do with the Farmer. To clip into the Garage I use Red Brick: „Super Ram“ and to get back out I use a Vehicle Thief Mission. To reach the Red Brick shop in the Policestation you have to use the Grapple gun (if you don’t have the Farmer), and Vehicle Thief missions only spawn on the overworld after you get the grapple gun for some reason. So post grapple gun is the earliest you can get the Farmer using this method. But in addition to these two puzzle pieces there is actualy a third piece of the Farmer puzzle that needs to be solved. If you get the Farmer early like that, the game kinda knows you’re not supposed to have it yet. If you leave the area and load a new area (watch a load screen), your Farmer will be gone. To keep the Farmer permanently you have to use what I'd like to call „Storysaves“. A Storysave is a Special kind of autosave that saves the Storyprogression and only happens after completing a Story objective like catching a Clown (Chapter 1), unlocking the Grapple gun (Chapter 2), or building the Ferry to Albatros/watching the cutscene with Captain Bluffbeard. As the storyprogression gets saved, your early Farmer also gets saved. The earliest you can get the Farmer is after Grapple gun and the earliest Storysave after grapple gun is the Albatros Ferry in Chapter 3. So that’s why I advance the Story by that much. But theoretically it is possible to get the Farmer even earlier than that. Red Brick: „Super Ram“ isn’t sticktly required to clip into the Garage. You could also do the clip with a heavy Tow Truck like the payload. Only Problem, you would have to hope you find a Payload in Traffic, which is completly RNG based. And theoretically you could also get out of the Garage without the Vehicle Thief mission. After you clip into the Garage, if you get lucky the Vehicle can get stuck in the gate in such a way that you can also clip out of the Garage. In this run I did actualy do that by accident, but it is quite rare to happen. It requires a lot of luck, but theoretically it is possible to get the Farmer before the grapple gun in Chapter 2 and there is a Storysave in Chapter 1 that could be used to skip more of the story. I belive in a theoretical perfect run, you would play until Clown 1, do the super luck based Farmerclip, get Red Brick: „Instant Vehicles“, do Clown 2 for the Storysave, buy „Instant Vehicles“, and beat the game. But I really don’t think humans will do that any time soon. The double Farmerclip is just stupidly unlikely to happen. Combined with the Traffic luck from needing a Payload (and Amadillo) and the incredibly difficult end game and congratulations, you have just created the worst speedrun with the worst combination of RNG and late game reset points. I don’t think humans would want to do that any time soon, but at least in theory a run of like 40 minutes is possible.
