Pruning is crucial to keep the tree healthy and in shape.
How to:
Prune branches back to 2 leaves with a branch cutter or leaf shear, ensuring long growth is removed
Remove any very thick branches high in the canopy for scale and remove any crossing or unsightly branches
Put bonsai cut paste on any large cuts
Ideal prune: Taper from thick trunk to very thin branches at the tips. This creates bushier and denser growth and finer, twiggy growth so the composition has scale and balance
Feed & protect: Spray the tree with a liquid fertiliser on the soil and, if needed, a systemic insecticide
And finally: Place the tree back in its growing position and water once a day (depending on your soil medium)
