"Die Blume von Hawaii" is an operetta by the Hungarian Paul Abraham which premiered in Leipzig in 1931.

Paul Abraham (1892-1960) was one of the most popular composers of the late 1920s and 30s... composing the operettas "Viktoria und Ihr Husar", "Ball im Savoy" but also music for movies such as "Die Privaksekretärin", "Zigeuner der Nacht" or "Das Blaue vom Himmel"... One of his biggest early successes was "Bin kein Hautpmann, bin kein grosses Tier" - originally composed for the operetta "Der Gatte des Fräuleins". It was then featured in the 1929 UFA talkie "Melodie des Herzens" - recorded by Willy Fritsch - became an enormous hit. After the nazis came to power in 1933 Abraham - who was jewish - had to leave Germany. He worked in Austria and his native Hungary before fleeing to the USA where he was virtually unknown and fell on hard times... He fell seriously ill and had a mental breakdown. In 1956 the German government organised his return to Germany. Until the dat hed died, Abraham believed he was living in New York and about to land a major succes once again...

"Die Blume von Hawaii" was filmed three times : once in 1932 with Marta Eggerth, again in 1953 with Maria Litto and finally as a tv movie in 1972 with Rex Gildo.

This record features the Metropol Künstler-Orchester conducted by the famed composer Paul Abraham himself with vocals by The Four Admirals.

The video features images of the original Metropol Theatre in Berlin which became the "Komische Oper" after the War as well as historic images of Berlin.

The original "Metropol Theater" was severely damaged during several bombing raids in 1944 and 1945 but the auditorium remained laregely intact. It was restored and integrated in a modern building in the 1960s. The Metropol Theater itself reopened in a cinema before movin to the Adrimalspalast in the Friedrichstrasse which had miraculously survived the war...
