Описание: Spasticity affects around 40% of people with spinal cord injury (SCI). It can have an impact on an individual's function, particularly arms and legs. If spasticity is not managed effectively, it can complicate daily tasks like dressing or feeding one's self, as well as affecting skin care, hygiene, or worse, leading to fixed deformities like contractures (changes to soft tissue).
Originally developed as a measure to assess the effects anti-spastic medication (carisoprodol) in people with multiple sclerosis, the Ashworth and Modified Ashworth tests have been adopted for measuring spasticity in people with SCI. The Ashworth/Modified Ashworth is among the most commonly used measures of spasticity in neurological rehabilitation.
