Chris Faiumu, founder of legendary New Zealand jazz and dub band Fat Freddy’s Drop, has died unexpectedly in his sleep.
Faiumu, also known as Mu or DJ Fitchie, founded the band through informal jam sessions with bandmates Dallas Tamaira and Toby Laing in Wellington in 1999. Since then, Fat Freddy’s Drop have played more than a thousand gigs, sold over half a million albums and collected a loyal fanbase who like to call themselves Fred Heads.
Samantha Hayes spoke earlier to Mu's longtime friend Zen Yates-Fill - who first met when they were teenagers and went on to DJ at Fat Freddy's gigs - about the loss to not only his family and friends but for the New Zealand music industry. | Subscribe: https://bit.ly/2JPg8oB
