Photochemical etching, also known as photochemical machining (PCM), is a precision manufacturing process used to create intricate designs on metal surfaces. This technique employs light-sensitive photoresist materials, which are applied to the metal substrate. A photographic mask is then used to expose specific areas to ultraviolet light, hardening the photoresist. The unexposed areas are subsequently removed, allowing a chemical etchant to dissolve the exposed metal. This process is highly accurate, capable of achieving complex geometries and fine details, making it ideal for applications in electronics, aerospace, and medical devices. Photochemical etching is cost-effective for both small and large production runs.
