Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Assam’s rich culture and identity, highlighting efforts by the BJP-led government to recognise and preserve the state’s heritage. He criticised the Congress for opposing initiatives, including the Bharat Ratna for Bhupen Hazarika, and accused it of fostering instability, favouring infiltrators over the state’s own people, and neglecting local development for political gain. Modi welcomed the Hemanta Biswa Sarma government’s work to restore land to rightful owners and stressed that Assam’s progress is now a priority. He highlighted the establishment of the Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council, a development package of Rs 1,500 crore for Bodo areas, new medical colleges and hospitals in Kokrajhar, a separate welfare department, and a Bodo Land Administrative Staff College to strengthen administration and policy. Modi said BJP’s governance is improving connectivity and infrastructure, reducing Assam’s distance from Delhi, and enhancing economic growth, making Assam one of India’s fastest-growing regions. He also attended the Bagurumba Dwhou 2026 cultural festival celebrating Bodo heritage alongside CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.
