Obama pays tribute to Cuban national hero Jose Marti in Havana

Описание: U.S. President Barack Obama, today paid tribute to Cuban national hero Jose Marti (1853-1895) in Havana, starting the official program of his historic visit to Cuba to strengthen the rapprochement between the two countries.

Accompanied by Salvador Valdes Mesa, vice president of the State Council of the island, Obama laid a wreath at the monument to Marti in the Plaza of the Revolution that is named after the famous independence fighter.

The US president arrived yesterday to the island with his wife and daughters, and immediately toured the old part of the Cuban capital, despite a continuing drizzle.

The agenda of the visit of the day, the first by a US president in more than eight decades, includes official talks with his host counterpart Raul Castro.

Also includes a meeting with young Cubans private sector entrepreneurs and dinner at the Palace of the Revolution, the seat of national government.
