DWP to deposit extra £575 into state pensioners' accounts next year
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will provide a significant boost to millions of state pensioners starting in April 2026, thanks to the government's commitment to the triple lock mechanism. This policy ensures the state pension rises each year by the highest of inflation, average earnings growth, or 2.5%.
For 2026/27, a 4.8% increase—driven by earnings growth—will see those receiving the full new state pension (generally people who reached state pension age on or after 6 April 2016) get an extra £575 annually. Their weekly payments will rise from around £230.25 to approximately £241.30, bringing the yearly total to about £12,547.
Pensioners on the older basic state pension will receive a smaller uplift of around £440 per year. These higher amounts will be automatically deposited into pensioners' bank accounts through their regular DWP payments, with no need to claim separately. This welcome increase aims to help retirees cope with ongoing living costs.
