Steam Pressure Reducing Valves are critical for getting the correct steam pressure to equipment like deaerators, heat exchangers, or other low-pressure steam systems. When these valves fail, it is oftentimes only one part of the valve that may need repair or replacement. The process for checking the pressure pilot or main valve function is a fairly simple one that can save a lot of time and money when it comes to working on these essential valves.
1. Isolate steam pressure to PRV. (Close valve )
2. Wind pressure setting nut ( top of PRV) all the way off.
3. Remove the “C” shaped transmission tubing.
4. Slowly provide steam (Crack valve open) back to PRV.
5. If the top bowl is leaking it is the pressure pilot that has failed.
6. If the bottom bowl is leaking it is the PRV itself that has failed.
