James Tanner
The third of four brothers, James was brought up in Kent and was taught to cook by his mother. He studied hotel management when he finished school and then worked in the kitchens of several well-known restaurants, often with his older brother Chris.
He worked his way up through the ranks until he was invited by the Roux brothers to move to the US and work in upstate New York. Subsequenttly he returned to England and worked for the two Michelin-starred restaurant Lettonie in Bath, under the respected chef Martin Blunos.
In 1999, aged 23, James and his brother Chris realised their boyhood dream and opened Tanners Restaurant in Plymouth. A perfect opportunity to put into practice their excellent Roux Brothers training it was voted in the AA Awards as the Best Restaurant in the UK for 2007/8. James now also co-owns and runs the much praised The Barbican Kitchen, also in Plymouth.

Chris and James published their first book, For Chocolate Lovers: From Truffles to Tiramisu in 2006. It was a huge success and they were invited to write another straight after Ice Cream (Small Book of Good Taste) was published in 2008. James' last book James Tanner Takes 5: Delicious Dishes Using Just 5 Ingredients hit the shelves in 2010 and is a 5 star Amazon favourite.
