China Keeps Importing Iranian Oil Amid West Asia Crisis Despite U.S. Strikes

Small independent Chinese refineries are stepping in to maintain imports, helping Beijing manage supply disruptions. After U.S. President Donald Trump warned of continued strikes on Iran for the next two to three weeks, oil prices surged globally.

China imports over 1.4 million barrels per day from Iran, making up more than 80% of Iran’s exported oil in 2025. While more than half of China’s oil comes from West Asia, strong domestic planning has helped mitigate the crisis. President Xi Jinping had previously emphasized that China would take energy supply matters “into its own hands.”

The ongoing conflict between Iran, the U.S., and Israel continues to impact global energy markets and shipping through the strategic Strait of Hormuz, which carries nearly 20% of the world’s oil and gas.
