And as our tools get smarter, we’re getting less capable. We’ve traded self-sufficiency for efficiency, and that’s fine to an extent... until the systems we rely on start to fail.
When the power goes out, the Wi-Fi drops, or our “smart” furnace goes on the fritz, we realize—we don’t know how anything works anymore. Knowledge has been replaced by service providers. Skill has been outsourced to apps and corporations, and self-reliance has become obsolete.
