I've been wanting to meet my mom's secret step family for years. The chance finally came up after I begged my Uncle 7 to take me down to My Tho to visit them. It was so surreal seeing how similar they resembled my aunts in America. I learned a lot about my maternal grandpa on that day and I'm proud and happy that I went down there even though it was against my mother's wishes. My family's story is not unique by far. Many Vietnamese families and other people in the world share similar stories. So this one is for everyone who has family issues. Try to resolve them. As much as my mom was against the idea initially, she ended up sending money anyways. At least it's a beginning. Better late than ever!!! It's a complicated situation. Every story has many sides. Just try to connect with your family. Even if it works or it doesn't work. Just try.
