Ricster Diaries Episode 89 - Christmas Special to York | 18/12/2024

Описание: Filmed on 18/12/2024. Well, better late than never which I must apologise for as its been to work and social commitments. Anyway, for the 2024 Christmas Special, we to one of Yorkshire's most popular Christmas Market at York but via the long way round plus a few stops in between.

Starting the journey at Scarborough, we catch the 06:53 Northern service which ran to Doncaster vice Sheffield as this was due to train crew issues. We ride this through to Bridlington vice Hull. The reason why is because we managed to save a few quid changing trains at Bridlington rather than Hull. Next, we then changed for 150211 which worked the 07:55 Northern service to York via Hull. This is one of very few Northern services to serve stations between Howden and Selby which only see's very few services a day. Selby was a decent hour spotting there as we see the first of the Transpennine Express Nova 1's on the new hourly Hull to Liverpool Lime Street services.

Next, we then catch the slightly late running 10:25 Northern service to our second station being Church Fenton. Whilst on route, we pass through the sidings and as we pass through, we see stabled London North Western Railway class 730's awaiting delivery and for crew training and mainline work. These are replacing the class 350/2's which are now in storage for the time being. Church Fenton has been rather decent with a freight and plenty of passenger variety passing through the station. One key note is the new hourly Transpennie Express stopper services between York and Manchester Piccadilly which by passes Leeds.

Afterwards, we catch the 12:49 Northern service to York which the service started from Sheffield. At York, we firstly got an hours worth of automated announcements as there has been updates since then. We had a decent few hours spotting at York for the two rail tours seen which were a few of the last for 2024. As darkness fell, we headed to the York Christmas Market which was as beautiful as others has been in other places we have been to.

Our journey home, we catch the slightly delayed 19:10 Transpennine Express service through to Scarborough worked by special livery 185111. For the season finale, it has been truly epic and for 2025 will see some major big changes occurring.
