I give this game a rating of 6.1/10. I admit it, I hated this game and playing it. The theme is that you are Hulk, a gladiator, and you have to kill everyone because it's a coliseum, obviously. I liked that it wasn’t just a one-button combat game, but had multiple buttons and combos (which I won’t mention because they’re in the instructions and I’m too lazy to). The controls felt awful to me, mainly because you use the arrow keys to move, and the left arrow key on my keyboard doesn't work well. The game has two difficulty modes: Normal and “Epic” (of course, I picked Normal since it was my first time playing), and there are also two modes: "Story" and "Battle." I didn’t play the Battle mode in the video, but I did afterward, and it's basically just seeing how many rounds you can survive with mixed enemies from all the levels.
As for the "Story" mode, it doesn’t have much substance; the enemies are predefined, and the story doesn’t seem to add anything. After each round, you only see an image with text, nothing more interesting like a cinematic or something, just the same image with different text. Every level is just three rounds, and after completing them, it loops back to Round 1, which is against a boss, and it continues like that until you reach the bald "Red King." Something I found ridiculous was the "Change Gear" option. There are three types: None, Light, and Heavy, which come with weapons. None just seemed silly to me—Hulk using a sword? I thought he was supposed to be the strongest character, but if you pick None, you gain more score but take more damage, which I’d call tryhard mode. On the other hand, with Heavy, you gain less score and take less damage. If you die, your score resets to 0, but honestly, I found the gameplay incredibly frustrating and didn’t enjoy it for two reasons.
First, when you start, you’re in the center, and enemies come from both the left and right. I get that it’s a coliseum, but the problem is that if you try to make any move and get hit, it cancels your attack, and you can’t do anything. Some enemies attack from a distance with spears or other weapons, and you have to get extremely close to them. Additionally, if it's a Hulk game, the whole point should be destroying everything and having fun, so canceling attacks shouldn’t be a thing.
The second issue is the ridiculous power-ups that randomly appear in the arena. It feels more like luck than skill. For example, the "INVINCIBLE" power-up is so overpowered that it’s the reason I won the game, purely by luck. I don’t see the point of having power-ups like that; there were better ways to balance the game. Another thing I didn’t remember was the "Shift" button. When the yellow bar fills up, Hulk slams the ground, and I thought, "Oh, come on."
Another thing that annoyed me was the enemy projectiles. You have to get close to hit them, which is very frustrating, especially with the bosses because all of them have projectiles! It's annoying because all you can do is block with the C key and wait for them to come closer. After completing the game, you can submit your score, but it didn’t show up in my video because, for some reason, when I played in fullscreen, the game froze. I had to minimize it, and since minimizing is done with the "Esc" key, which also ends the recording, it messed everything up. Then, you get a "code" which says "Sakaar." You enter it in the "Extras" section to unlock a new boss, but I found this code stupid. You can find the word in the "Bios" section or know it if you’re a fan, but it's not even a random number or letter code.
Finally, the leaderboard is local, not global, so when I submitted my score, it only saved locally, but that’s okay. As for the graphics, I have no complaints; everything looks great and matches the cartoon. The character designs, backgrounds, and animations are smooth and well done. The UI and font are also amazing—I have nothing bad to say here. The sounds are not overwhelming or annoying, and the epic music loop was fine. Honestly, I forgot it was even playing at times, but it fits. The menu and gameplay music are just background noise, which doesn’t distract or bother me, and that’s great. The sound effects didn’t annoy me either—things like punches, Hulk’s screams, etc., added more immersion, and I liked them, including the sound in the menu, which gives the menu more life. It’s something many games lack. The game could have been more, but as it stands, I didn’t enjoy it much. Also, once you win, the game restarts, and there’s nothing more to do. I don’t consider it a game of skill or one that makes you want to improve. It’s not something I would play for hours
