The New York State Bar Association’s Committee on Immigration Representation invites you to join us for a public hearing, with testimony from invited speakers, focusing on the impact of changes in federal immigration regulations and enforcement in New York State in order to inform recommendations for public policy and law.

WHY IT MATTERS:
Recent months have seen sweeping changes in federal immigration policy, including intensified civil immigration enforcement in public spaces across New York State and the termination of several programs that had provided lawful status and work authorization to state residents. These shifts reverberate across numerous areas of law, civic, social, religious and health care organizations, raising urgent and complex questions for state and local government officials, law enforcement, employers, nonprofit organizations, and the attorneys who advise them. This public hearing seeks to solicit evidence, insight and recommendations for public policy from attorneys with diverse legal backgrounds about the impact of current immigration law, policy and enforcement. The goal of the
public hearing is to build an evidence-based assessment of the impact of current immigration practices on the day-to-day functioning of societal organizations and specific proposals for public policy and law to address the concerns and issues identified. Evidence from speakers/panelists may include data, reports and rich descriptions of the impact of immigration enforcement in their areas of legal practice and on the clients and communities they serve.
