💥 If you are claiming housing benefit or the Universal Credit housing element right now — there is a very real chance you are receiving the WRONG amount. Not slightly wrong. Potentially hundreds of pounds wrong. Every single month.
The DWP and local councils make errors more often than most people realise — and they will NOT contact you to fix them. You have to find the errors yourself. This video shows you exactly how.
⚠️ IS YOUR HOUSING BENEFIT BEING CALCULATED CORRECTLY?
There are 6 major reasons why millions of UK renters are receiving the wrong housing support amount right now — and most of them have no idea it is happening.
❌ ERROR 1 — WRONG BEDROOM ENTITLEMENT
Your LHA rate depends entirely on your bedroom entitlement. If the DWP has given you the wrong bedroom number for your household — you could be receiving a lower LHA rate than you are legally entitled to. Check your award letter against the actual people living in your home RIGHT NOW.
❌ ERROR 2 — WRONGLY APPLIED NON-DEPENDANT DEDUCTION
If an adult lives in your home, the DWP automatically deducts £96.55 per month from your housing support. But this deduction should NOT apply if:
→ The person is under 18 and not in full-time work
→ They receive Universal Credit without earnings
→ They receive Income Support or income-based JSA
→ They receive Pension Credit guarantee credit
→ YOU receive Attendance Allowance, DLA care component, or PIP daily living component
If any of these apply and the deduction IS being taken — you are losing £1,158 per year unnecessarily.
❌ ERROR 3 — WRONG UNDER-35 SHARED ACCOMMODATION RATE
Single people under 35 are restricted to the shared accommodation LHA rate — even if they live alone. But important EXEMPTIONS apply:
→ Care leavers under 26 — exempt (entitled to one-bedroom rate)
→ Former residents of homeless hostels or refuges (3+ months) — exempt
→ Recognised former rough sleepers — exempt
→ People with severe disabilities receiving qualifying benefits — exempt
If you qualify for an exemption and have been receiving the shared rate — you have been significantly underpaid.
❌ ERROR 4 — WRONGLY APPLIED BENEFIT CAP
The benefit cap is FROZEN for 2026/27 for the third year in a row. More renters are being caught by it every year. But you are EXEMPT if:
→ You or your partner earn over £793/month net
→ Your UC includes the LCWRA element
→ You receive Carer's Allowance or UC carer element
→ You receive a qualifying disability benefit at the enhanced rate
→ You recently stopped work after 50+ weeks employment (39-week grace period)
❌ ERROR 5 — ESA HOUSING BENEFIT UNDERPAYMENT (2011–2019)
The DWP identified approximately 22,500 cases of renters who received LESS housing benefit than they were entitled to between 2011 and 2019 due to an ESA calculation error. One affected renter received nearly £20,000 in backdated arrears. If you claimed ESA and housing benefit between 2011 and 2019 — call the DWP on 0800 169 0346 TODAY.
❌ ERROR 6 — UNREPORTED CHANGES IN CIRCUMSTANCES
Any change that could INCREASE your housing support will never be applied automatically. You must report it immediately. Changes include: new children, non-dependant moving out, new disability benefit, income drop, or rent increase.
